ABOUT

Cari Lichtman joined the American Cancer Society Epidemiology Research Program in 1999 as an epidemiologist, and in 2005 began working with the biospecimen management group. Lichtman assumed leadership of this group in 2014, and she is involved in all major decisions concerning biospecimen collection, processing and documentation for the Cancer Prevention Study (CPS)-II and -3 cohorts.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

Lichtman leads a team of four staff members charged with maintaining the inventory, data, and documentation for the biospecimen resources collected from participants enrolled in the Society’s two large prospective cohort studies, CPS-II and -3. Lichtman and her team assist internal and external collaborators with accessing and processing biospecimen resources, and her team is responsible for preserving the integrity of millions of biospecimens. Lichtman also manages all biospecimen-related budgets and negotiates and manages vendor contracts.

As a member of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER), she serves on program committees for annual and regional meetings.
