ABOUT

Tenbroeck G. Smith conducts research on cancer patient and survivor quality of life. He also provides expert counsel on the Society’s patient/survivor initiatives. 

RESEARCH SUMMARY

Smith investigates quality of life and functional status, and symptom burden and management among cancer survivors using patient reported outcomes (PROs). He leads Society efforts to measure PROs at health system and population levels with the goal of improving lives of cancer patients and survivors. 

He is principal investigator for the Patient Reported Outcomes Symptoms & Side Effects Study, which piloted a cost-effective method of collecting PROs and care experiences from community cancer centers. He also has led several other studies describing the use of PROs in cancer care and survivors’ opinions about adding PROs to central cancer registries. Smith is also co-principal investigator of the Studies of Cancer Survivors.
